Making A Difference in the Lives of Women and Girls

AAUW The American Association of University Women promotes equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. AAUW is open to all graduates who hold an associate's or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. By joining AAUW, you belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so all women have a fair chance.

AAUW Wisconsin works to further the policies and programs of the Association both nationally and within the state. Our Public Policy Program aims to preserve a strong system of public education that promotes equity and diversity, promotes economic self-sufficiency for all women, and strives to guarantee equality, individual rights and social justice for a diverse society.

AAUW-WI consists of 35 local branches and one on-line branch with a total membership of 1900+. AAUW-WI seeks to make a difference in the lives of Wisconsin women and girls. We network with Wisconsin colleges and universities and work in partnership with diverse organizations to achieve our goals. Some of these partners include the Wisconsin Women's Network, Wisconsin Women = Prosperity, and the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.

Wisconsin Online Branch Forming
On April 25th the WI State Board approved the recommendation of the Alternative Branch Structure Committee to immediately establish an AAUW-WI online branch. Great Lakes Regional Director Ruth Brown, who was in attendance at the meeting, informed the Board that WI is the first state within the Region to do so. This action will allow members in different Wisconsin communities and throughout the country to work together as a branch without dealing with scheduling and travel issues. Members will participate on their own time and from their own computers.

Hoping to attract members-at-large who do not join a local branch and to retain non-renewing members, the WI Online branch will provide an alternative way to connect to AAUW-WI thus allowing them to participate in our state conventions, programs, workshops, and to receive Badger Briefs. However, as is true for any AAUW branch, membership is open to anyone who qualifies for membership in the Association. It is possible that current members might wish to hold dual memberships with their local branch and the online branch.

Establishing a leadership core, which definitely includes a web designer, is the next step. If you or anyone you know are interested in being involved in this exciting work or would like to become a member, please contact Marge Mueller, aauw.marge@charter.net, immediately.
