Diversity Circles: Dialogue - Action - Change

From Diversity VP Barbara Munson

Bring a guest to learn about Diversity Circles and AAUW
Roseann Mason, Community Dialogues Director at UW Parkside, and Rebecca Mason, LAF Vice President AAUW- WI, will be conducting a workshop about Diversity Circles - a program of community dialogues designed to explore difficult issues impacting diverse populations and moving them toward solutions. Communities throughout Wisconsin are conducting these dialogues. Several AAUW members are already participating in these community dialogues and some have become trained facilitators.

To be effective, Diversity Circles need the voices of people from varied populations within each community. In an effort to attract and involve these partners the AAUW State Board has decided to waive the Sunday registration fee for guests invited by our members to attend this session at our convention this year. This is an opportunity for us to develop partnerships with ethnic organizations that promote education for girls and women throughout the state. By inviting representatives from these organizations to the Diversity Circles workshop we will enact on a state level the “Doing Diversity” Initiative that we are asking our branches to engage in on the local level. Think about who you would like to invite to further this dialogue in your community, region and state. We can develop relationships with change agents and together learn effective ways to create positive change through involvement in Diversity Circles.

AAUW members may invite guests from other groups to attend this workshop with them.
If you are bringing guests their registration fee for Sunday events will be waived. Please ask your guests to bring your written invitation with them to the Sunday session and let the Registrar know how many guests you have invited when you register. Guests are welcome to attend our business meeting (as non-voters) and other Sunday morning programming elements to get a feel for our organization. If your guests want to join us for breakfast they will incur charges for the meal if they are not overnight hotel guests.

This year let’s grow our network and show that we value diversity in our membership and in our communities by bringing the dialogue to our convention.
