Branch Programs 2009-10

All meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Sunset Playhouse Studio Theatre, 800 Elm Grove Rd., Elm Grove, WI beginning at 7:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. New this year, a social will begin the meeting at 7 p.m.

September 8 (Tuesday): Getting to Know You: The Power and Pleasure of Networking. AAUW member Pat Katisch will facilitate an interactive exercise to help members create new connections, become better acquainted and practice the powerful tool of networking.

October 14: Karen Timberlake of Wisconsin Health and Human Services will present Working Together For a Healthier Wisconsin. Topics include H1N1, health care reform, and pressing public health challenges. Karen Timberlake is the presenter. A Chili supper will precede the meeting.

November 14 (Saturday) 11 a.m.: Tea With Milwaukee’s Poet Laureate. Susan Firer will read her poetry at the New Berlin Public Library

December 9: Brass quintet Esprit d’Brass. will perform. The ensemble consists of two trumpets, a trombone, a French horn and tuba.

January 9, 2010 (Saturday) 8:30 a.m.: Laurie Horbas, columnist for Outpost will speak on the topic Food and Where it Comes From.

February 10: NORMAL in Schools: Tackling Eating Disorders through an Award-Winning Musical. Robyn Hussa, founder and president of NORMAL in Schools will discuss a program raising awareness about eating disorders. Several local actors will perform.

March 10: Just in time for Women’s History Month, Robin Mello will take us back in time, spinning tales of women’s work while showing us her skill with a spinning wheel.

April 14: Rebecca Klaper of the Great Lakes Water Institute will speak on their mission to promote, sustain, and protect our freshwater systems.

May 12: Concert pianist Maryann Landa will perform works by Amy Beach and also by Brahms at the Steinway Gallery.
